Investment Associates undergo a quarter of weekly training sessions held by professionals in the field of microfinance, investment, and asset management. At the same time, IAs are divided up into four geographical regions and, with their regional teams and using the knowledge they have garnered from the training sessions, they go through due diligence and produce rough pitch books for one microfinance institution in their regions. The next quarter focuses on the application of their new investment skills to the pitchbooks as they hone their due diligence skills and make contact with the leadership teams of the chosen MFIs. Collaboration and professionalism are also emphasized. Final investments (usually one or two per academic year) are made through University of Chicago’s Office of Investment.
This entire process is overseen by the Executive Committee and Board of Advisors/Directors.
