Our History

The University of Chicago Microfinance Initiative (UCMI) was founded in 2010 due to a renewed perspective on tackling social issues, an unmet need for acquiring skills for an alternative career path, and a demand for the opportunity to gain a global business perspective. UCMI was established to develop globally aware leaders who are equipped to tackle current and relevant societal problems domestic and abroad. In the pursuit of achieving this mission, UCMI was built with a broad support structure and partnerships with professional advisors, professors, and student leaders. The University and its students have recognized our value and joined in our mission.
